A spokesperson of the South Korean Ministry of Defense replied to the boy band BTS’s intention to start their mandatory military duty as early as late October during a normal news briefing on October 18.
According to a ministry representative, “[BTS] will be granted the option to engage in performances and activities if it is for public service to the nation, or for national events or performances which benefit the nation.”
This chance is already open to some enlisted soldiers, the source continued, adding at this point, “We are not referring any specific events or promotions.”
Big Hit Music revealed plans for BTS to start their mandatory military duty obligations in order of age earlier this week. At the end of October, Member Jin in particular plans to revoke his request for a service delay. Jin’s enrollment summons will be issued three months after the withdrawal.
